section.overview
Multidisciplinary artist Mzung Nguyễn has experience in journalism and filmmaking. Her storytelling instinct, which acts as a lens through which to engage the world, has molded her artistic practice through layers of creative transformation. She explored cultural ruptures through documentary and experimental filmmaking for more than ten years, drawing on personal experience and cross-border observation. Her attempts to depict transitional states—deeply personal yet relevant to larger societal changes - can be seen in pieces like Sleeping in the City (2016) and The Light after Life (2017). Mzung has branched out into visual art in recent years, creating installations out of trash, collage and mixed-media pieces, and paper sculptures. These turn into receptacles for memories and deteriorating forms—an artistic reflection on change and loss. She made her debut in Vietnam's contemporary art scene with her solo exhibitions Movement (2022, 2023), which paved the way for her continued involvement in cooperative and dialogic group exhibitions.
