Untitled (Walking around) - a mutual conversation with Trần Minh Đức (Duc flyingbay)

As part of the exhibition "FRAGILITY ETERNITY | MONG MANH VĨNH CỬU", art lovers had the opportunity to participate in Art Tour - Chưa đề (Đi dạo loanh quanh) on Sunday afternoon, October 15, 2022 at Gate Gate Gallery. Led by facilitator Kim Hyo Jung, translator Ostin Fam (Dũng), artist Trần Minh Đức (Duc flyingbay) shared stories about the creative process behind the 15 multimedia installations.

Born and raised in a period when the country was undergoing major historical, cultural, and social changes, Duc flyingbay's childhood memories span many regions of Vietnam, including Saigon, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, and Nam Dinh. Each of these childhood connections has provided him with inspiration for his multimedia works (neon lights, stainless steel chairs, and vases made from recycled copper bullet casings). In addition, Trần Minh Đức's works are also marked by a sense of nostalgia, as evidenced by his fascination with the name of a black stone souvenir carving, "Kỷ niệm Non Nước". From these thoughts, he is always concerned about the Vietnamese imprint in his artist persona, in each of his artistic creations as he gradually integrates with international art.

Sharing with facilitator Kim Hyo Jung and the audience about the subtle arrangement between modern objects such as Coca-Cola cardboard boxes, Saigon beer, and an object with a distant image, nostalgic for a bygone time like the carving "Kỷ niệm Non Nước", Duc flyingbay wants to create a historical dialogue stream, between the distant past and the present as the exhibition name MONG MANH VĨNH CỬU.

Art sometimes originates from the most ordinary, everyday stories associated with familiar objects such as postcards, tables, and stainless steel chairs. For Trần Minh Đức, "Pop Culture" or "Pop Art" is always in the subconscious of each person and has accompanied him from the first creative ideas and thoughts. "FRAGILITY ETERNITY | MONG MANH VĨNH CỬU" is an opportunity for artist Duc flyingbay to help the audience touch very gently on the emotions, memories, and perceptions of each person in this special space.
